Knee Socks You Say…

The other day I get a super wonderful e-mail from one of you super wonderful readers asking for some styling advice. Said super wonderful reader purchased a pair of knee socks and was wondering if yours truly had any advice for a fun way to wear them without looking like a Gossip Girl extra or an over-grown Lolita. Well, WestmountFashionista is here to the rescue, my dears. A great way to style a pair of knee-socks without looking like the above mentioned individuals is to pair them with some comfy flat boots and a cozy sweater-dress as I’ve done in these pictures. By swapping the heels for a pair of boots and the mini-skirt for a more relaxed sweater-dress, I’ve taken the knee-socks into the more comfortable everyday realm. Not going to lie darlings, the black knee sock and neon yellow mini skirt combination, while loved by the fashion community, elicited a few perplexed stares as I teetered away from the final night of Montreal Fashion Week through the streets of the Old Port. The sweater-dress and flat boot combo is a great fall look that is not only easy to style at home but there’s a good chance it’s in your closet already. With the simple addition of the knee socks to this look, your adding a fun extra element to an always classic look. Hope this helps darlings!

Love this look, and so true- most of us gals are guaranteed to already have a sweater dress in our closet. I could also see this outfit with a pair of ankle booties… Probably better for evening though! xx

The knee socks intimidate me, I’ll admit it. You make it look so easy, but I like the idea of pairing them with a sweater dress and high boot, unexpected!

Thanks! I have to admit, I got quite a few sideways looks when I did the knee-sock and stiletto combination so I was happy that this combination worked out. The knee-sock is starting to creep in to my outfits more and more.

Great tip with the flat boots. I’ll keep that in mind for my next outfit with knee socks.
