Runway Report: Jay Godfrey Fall 2014
With shades of Bianca Jagger and Grace Jones, Jay Godfrey‘s first showing at New York Fashion Week exuded rock and roll chic. I’m a huge fan of Godfrey’s eponymous line, I even wore a Jay Godfrey dress for one of my bridal showers. His attention to tailoring and feminine yet contemporary designs have garnered him attention from publications like WWD, Elle, and Cosmopolitan. This New York based designer actually has a major Montreal connection having graduated from McGill before going on to study at Parsons and interning with fashion power house Oscar de la Renta before starting his own line.
For Fall 2014, Godfrey showed an achingly cool collection filled with some seriously standout dresses and separates. With sequins, fringe, and feathers, the pieces are perfect for commanding attention. The showing was a true success for Godfrey with a packed house and a constant stream of well wishers congratulating the designer. However, two of the real stars of the show were Godfrey’s two little daughters who, much like everyone else in the room, were totally taken with the presentation.
